About the Baby Bank Alliance

Our mission is to support UK baby banks so that every child in the UK has the supplies and clothing that they need to thrive.

The Problem

Children are growing up without the essentials they need to thrive. With a third of children under five years of age living in poverty in the UK and one million children facing destitution (Joseph Rowntree Foundation), families are having to make impossible choices between paying the bills, buying food or turning the heating on.  Poverty can have a  profound impact on babies and young children’s developmental outcomes, lifelong health, education and earning potential.

What support do baby banks offer?

Powered by local communities, over 250 baby banks across the UK provide a vital lifeline for families in all sorts of challenging circumstances. They create warm, caring places for families to access equipment, products, clothes and toys to help relieve some of the stress and strain which can create such significant pressure on people caring for babies and young children.

The Baby Bank Alliance

This is why we have formed a national Baby Bank Alliance – so that baby banks can come together with one voice, boost the impact of the incredible support they offer across the country and share the stories of the families they support. We want to ensure that all baby banks can access the funding, goods, volunteers and practical support they need to be the most effective they can be. The founding Alliance board members are Baby Bank Network Bristol, Little Village, Save the Children and Purposeful Ventures; we will soon be expanding our board and Advisory Group to include additional baby bank leaders, ensuring that the Alliance is always run by and for the baby bank community.

The Baby Bank Alliance is jointly incubated by Purposeful Ventures and Save the Children.
